Regime Change?!

Previously I was going to assume the role as a writer/director. However due to personal changes offline and time constraints, I relinquished the director responsibilities to someone else namely Pamela. She and I will be collaborating and working together on the direction of the story. So she will be really helpful in the progress of this story. I still have no clue when auditions will begin. But trust me when I say that we do want them to happen soon. Thanks for you patience!

The Strange History of Eden's Gate: Part I - A Universe is Born

Well all stories have a beginning. So here's the beginning of how this project first began.

Ever since I was a kid, I've wanted to be a writer. I'd write lots of ideas that never really got written out into actual stories. I've had a few stories that have since been lost to time and now exist only in my memories.

So now fast forward to... oh... let's say five years ago. I was still writing during my teen years, but never really wrote anything that amounted to much. Then I finally got internet access in my house. Then... I discovered... fan fiction. True, nine times out of ten the stuff floating around on the Net is mediocre to foul. However, I did manage to find a few stories that really were worth reading and that got me to thinking about writing fan fiction too.

Most writers would cringe and yell at me at this point. However, let's get a couple things established. For the most part, during this period of my life, I felt kind of creatively drained to an extent. Secondly, thinking up stories about anime that I love really stimulated my brain a lot. If anything the only reason why I even got around to creating Eden's Gate was because I was dabbling in fan fiction (as you will soon see.) If I ever do become a famous writer, let me say that I'm not going to be someone who will be a hypocrite and say that "I don't approve of fan fiction" since I have written fan fiction. I have admitted that most of the stuff you find really isn't very good. If anything, I consider fan fiction another avenue of practicing the craft of writing. I think that any opportunity to write is still good. Writers become really excellent writers from two ways: constantly writing and constantly editting. I don't pretend to be an excellent writer. This is merely one writer's observations of how it all works out. So let's get back to the original point of this entry.

I was heavily involved with fan fiction writing within a year after getting internet access. I moved into Gundam Wing fandom and wrote fan fiction there. It was during the later period that I was actively writing in that fandom that I developed an interesting idea for an Alternate Universe (AU) story. I began writing down my ideas and put it aside since I was in the middle of another story, which I must note is still incomplete after two years and I haven't finished. The concept was that the women in Gundam Wing didn't get much "screen time" in stories, though it has changed. I thought it would be interesting to do a series where the female characters have more leading roles as the "heroes" of the story.

As I progressively thought more and more about this story, I was also reading more and more manga since the last year or so was when manga was really exploding in the States. It occurred to me that the nature of this story would really suit well as a manga. Of course this is where we lead into part 2 of this History. ^^

Writing commences

Well I'm finally out of the writer's block and have begun working on the first episode of the radio play. Hopefully we'll have auditions in October.

So please stay tuned!

The Radio Play

I'm currently working on possible story lines for the radio play idea. The concept is that the radio play is going to be set in the same "universe" as the anime. However, it will not directly effect the anime as in it being a prequel necessarily. It's going to be an opportunity to explore some aspect of the story that won't really be covered very much in the anime. It will be referenced.

I'm hoping that I will have the summary and outline released to the crew working with on this so far. The tentative date of when we will begin auditions is around September 30. Please note that those who get casted in the radio play(s) will be the first ones to be considered for roles in the anime. After that, the other anime roles uncasted will be made available for consideration. Due to the possible schedule and production time for the radio plays, the anime most likely won't be casted earlier than December 31. More likely it'll be in January or February.

The Current Plans

Well currently, we're working on several things. We're still in the planning stages and discussing what needs to be done.

Another idea that has spring up recently is the idea of doing radio plays to get interest in our work. Voice auditions are slated for September, but the actual date won't be announced until closer to the date.

Welcome!

This is the official first post of this blog! So I guess I'll just do an explanation of this blog's purpose. This is the official blog of Eden's Gate, which is an ambitious multimedia project that will be including an original fan-made animated series and radio plays. It's all still in the planning stages, but the next bunch of entries will be explaining the history and origins of this project and an introduction to the various people involved in the creation of this highly ambitious project.
